OPERATING TESTING FACILITES FOR CO2 CAPTURE AT RISAVIKA

When carbon capture technology in 2007 was to be tested, the new Risavika Gas Centre (RGC) testing facilities outside Stavanger, Norway, were chosen.

risavika petrolink Assignment: Operating testing facilities for CO2 capture
Client: Risavika Gas Centre (RGC)
Location: Risavika Gas Centre outside Stavanger, Norway
Duration: 2007 – present

RGC is an international offering within research, development and large scale testing of equipment and components for sustainable production and use of natural gas and renewable energy sources. In order to conduct the test safely and efficiently, RGC selected Petrolink for all operational services related to the testing.

The successful execution of the initial project resulted in a frame agreement for Petrolink with RGC for general support also to other test projects. Next company in the need of testing facilities was ACC, developing CO2 capture technology aimed at combustion power plants. The aim of the project was to test the efficiency of using different chemical substances, among them amines. On behalf of ACC, Petrolink took responsibility for the day-to-day operation of the test facilities.

Both deliverables included provision of facility management and skilled operating personnel, together with all technical documentation. The documentation was structured in a fit-for-purpose management system, making all information easily accessible for the personnel. In addition, Petrolink was responsible for competence development and training of the personnel involved. Training was conducted by use of classrooms, Computer-Based Training (CBT), process simulators and Organised Job Training (OJT).

Upon completion of the testing for ACC, Petrolink was invited to follow ACC for further testing – and a four year frame agreement was signed. The first project under the agreement was testing of a CO2 capture unit at Scottish Power’s coal based power station outside Edinburgh in Scotland. The development of new CO2 cleaning technologies has now taken a big leap forward, partly due to the testing services provided by RGC in operative collaboration with Petrolink
